Your support is vital to P.O.P.S.I.C.L.E. Center®! 25% to 45% of typically developing children will suffer from a feeding issue and that the number increases to 33% to 80% in children with developmental disabilities. (Arvedson, 2008; Lefton‐Greif, 2008; Williams, Witherspoon, Kavsac, Patterson, & McBlain, 2006) The children we serve are not picky eaters; they have physiological issues that cause choking, gagging, coughing and retching at every meal. A child with a feeding difficulty will starve themselves to avoid the pain they experience. This is a misunderstood and underserved population and we are extremely grateful for the donations of our many supporters. Your contribution will affect change and support the many programs we have in place. Whether you donate an item, sponsor an event, volunteer your time or send a monetary donation, every contribution makes a difference in the lives of the children we serve. Volunteer Spotlight

Debbie Akers has been volunteering her time to help P.O.P.S.I.C.L.E. Center move their Social Media to the next level. She has done a tremendous job making a huge impact with our Twitter and Facebook online presence. Debbie is a busy wife and mom of three boys 11, 7 and 3 years old. Two of her three boys are special needs children. In her spare time, Debbie enjoys movies, reading, yoga, blogging and scrapbooking. She also volunteers at the elementary school and through her autism support group.

“My now 11 year old child struggled to eat as a toddler due to low muscle tone and sensory issues. He now eats a lot, but takes medication for reflux and has a bit of remaining difficulty swallowing. My 7 year old has a dairy allergy but is a typical eater and good role model for the others! My 3 year old has gastroparesis (partial paralysis of the stomach muscles), reflux, multiple food allergies and global developmental delays. We’ve been in the testing phase for mitochondrial disease for awhile now. He uses an elemental formula as his main source of nutrition.

P.O.P.S.I.C.L.E. Center has been a great support to our family, especially when the kids were younger and I otherwise felt very alone. They are a unique organization started by a group of determined moms! I am very excited about many new things P.O.P.S.I.C.L.E. Center has planned for the future!”

P.O.P.S.I.C.L.E. Center is very honored to have a special person like Debbie volunteering her time to support the growing needs of the organization. We are grateful for her commitment to keep P.O.P.S.I.C.L.E. connected to so many individuals and organizations through social media.
